Greetings family!

Have you been wondering what excitement is planned for this year’s reunion? Well, the planning committee has been working on a weekend packed with fun and togetherness for all of us!

Things you’ll need for this reunion adventure:

  1.  Comfortable shoes – We’ll be doing a good deal of walking and sightseeing
  2. The UBER app (download here) – Parking around the DC metro area can be challenging and pricey
  3. Camera/Phone –  We’ll be taking lots of photos and posting about our fun time in DC and posting on Social Media
Thursday, July 26
3:00pm – 6:00pm  Hotel Check-in
7:00pm – 11:00pm Meet & Greet

Check into the hotel, then head to the meeting room, where you’ll get your swag bags and register for the reunion. Take a moment to relax and unwind from your travels, and when you’re ready, let’s meetup in the Bistro for cocktails and snacks to officially kick off the reunion weekend!  Bring your photos and other memorabilia to share with family members.

Friday, July 27
7:00am – 8:30am Complimentary breakfast at the Bistro
9:00am Depart for Museum of African American History & Culture
10:00am – 3:00pm Tour Museum (lunch at cafeteria)
4:00pm – 7:00pm Family Fun at Ocean Dunes Waterpark (optional – 15 minute ride from hotel)
7:00pm Dinner on your own
10:00pm – 12:00am Open mic talent showcase at Busboys & Poets

Enjoy breakfast at the Bistro, then let’s meetup in the lobby for a 9:00 AM departure to the museum. Our ticketed entry begins at 10:00 am sharp, so we MUST be on time!  We’ll plan to conclude the tour at 3:00pm.  As an option, the Ocean Dunes Waterpark is nearby (15 minute drive). Cost is $7 or $8.75 depending on height, $12 if you want to play mini-golf. For dinner, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance from the hotel. There is also a grocery store nearby, and if you want to be adventurous, you can take a quick Uber to Georgetown, which is DC hot spot. For those of you want to showcase your talent (or see talent), let’s check out the open mic talent showcase at Busboys & Poets. Tickets for the Friday night open mic talent showcase go on sale here starting at midnight, so if you plan to attend, you need to get the tickets Thursday night. Seating is available on a first come, first seated basis. No saved or reserved seats are allowed. Note: This is for mature audiences only, as many poets use very colorful language in their performances.

Saturday, July 28
8:00am – 10:00am Complimentary breakfast at the Bistro
9:00am – 10:00am Council of Elders meeting in the Meeting Room (bring your breakfast)
10:00am Depart for Hop-On/Hop-Off DC Sightseeing Tour
11:00am – 5:00pm Explore DC at your own pace
7:00pm – 10pm Family Dinner Party
10:00pm – until More family fun in the meeting room!

We are looking for an infusion of fresh ideas for future reunions, so we invite you to attend the Council of Elders meeting. Bring your breakfast and your brilliant ideas to the meeting room, but come at about 9:30am to allow time for the business portion of the meeting to conclude. Then we’ll depart for the Hop-On/Hop-Off DC sightseeing tour. Ride a double-decker motorcoach; open top and fully climate-controlled inside. It has wheelchair and stroller access, as well as bathrooms. Explore DC at your own pace – simply hop on and off around Washington DC at your leisure.  Bus has pick-ups/drop-offs every 30-40 minutes. If you choose not to get off at all, you can see all 20 locations (from the inside of the bus) in just under 3 hours. It’s recommended we ALL get off to see the MLK Memorial, the White House and the Capital, at the very least for photo ops. Lunch at DC’s Georgia Brown’s (southern cuisine) is recommended. It’s a 6 minute walk from the White House.  Plans are underway for a family dinner party, then we’ll come back to the hotel for more family fun…Games, movie, music, dranks… whatever, as long as it’s together!

Sunday, July 29
9:00am – 10:30am Complimentary Breakfast at the Bistro
10:30 am-11:30am Family memorial service
12:00pm Hotel check-out and farewells

Of course, anything here is subject to change…nothing is written in stone, so just be flexible and plan to go with the flow!

More details and logistics will be discussed at the meet & greet when you arrive Thursday night.  If you have any questions, please contact the committee at mecreunion@gmail.com.

We look forward to seeing you soon!
